Sacla’ Pesto Review & Hamper Giveaway RRP £50

Published on August 19, 2014 • Last updated September 29, 2014 by Elizabeth Atia

I’m a big fan of pesto. A simple meal of plain boring dried pasta can be transformed into something magical with the addition of a good quality pesto. It is remarkably versatile – you don’t have to just use it on plain pasta; stir it through gnocchi, in soup, to top lasagne or even as a pizza sauce. Home made is always best in my humble opinion, but failing that Sacla’ comes to the rescue!

Sacla’ recently sent me a sample box including nine different flavours from their pesto and pasta sauce range to review. Yay!

Most people are familiar with the classic basil pesto made with fresh basil leaves, pine nuts and plenty of olive oil, but Sacla’ pesto comes in ten different varieties including a new wild garlic pesto and summer seasonal pesto made with roasted red pepper, mozarella and rocket.

I used half the wild garlic pesto I was sent to sample to top a grilled veggie lasagne and the other half on potato gnocchi. I am in love with this pesto and will be watching out for it in the supermarket!

The summer pesto I used as a sauce for a heritage wheat wholegrain pizza with grilled vegetables. It was superb! Despite it being a healthier option pizza, deviating from the normal pepperoni and tomato based sauce and having a reluctant, sceptical family eat it there were no leftovers. I also tried their free-from (wheat, gluten and dairy free) tomato pesto on pasta and the kids asked for second helpings and when it comes to sauces this is a rare occurrence (they prefer their pasta plain).

All of the Sacla’ products are made in Italy from high quality ingredients and all of the products we’ve tried so far were delicious. I like the fact their products are made with no junk – just simple, real ingredients just like you’d make at home.

The parcel also included a few of their Al Forno Bake cook-in pasta sauces. All you do is pour the contents of the jar over some dried pasta, add some water and bake in the oven. I confess to being sceptical at first but the proof was in the eating – every one of the sauces we’ve tried so far (a four Italian cheese and black summer truffle sauce and a vine-ripened tomato, creamy mozzarella and basil pesto sauce) were delicious. There were no leftovers and even my picky children cleaned their plates! The sauces can be eaten as-is with plain pasta, but each jar contains two simple delicious recipes to jazz it up a bit, if you fancy.

Look out for their products at your local supermarket. You can find them on Twitter and Facebook too.

Sacla’ would like you to try their pesto range so they are offering two of my readers the chance to win a Sacla’ Pesto Gift Hamper worth £50!

The favourite pasta dish in our house is my spaghetti with meatballs – which I slow cook in the oven. We are fans of Sacla though, it’s ideal for a quick mid-week meal and I always make extra as it is so useful to take as a pasta salad in lunchboxes the next day.
