Review: MAGQI Wireless Qi Desk Charger

Published on March 20, 2017 by Elizabeth

We test out the latest in wireless technology from FeelTech, plus a giveaway worth £64.98!

MAGQI Magnetic Qi Charger

As a blogger, my entire business is run online. Social media plays a vital role in what I do, and as such, I rely quite heavily on my phone. It rarely leaves my side, if I’m to be honest, although I am making a conscious effort these days to have screen-free ‘down’ time.

I was recently sent the new Magqi Qi wireless desk charger from FeelTech plus an adaptor patch for my iPhone 6s to try out. After a successful Indiegogo campaign, FeelTech are just now (today, the 20th of March, in fact) sending out the first batch of products to all the campaign backers, and I have to say, it is a rather swish product!

The Magqi Wireless Qi Charger is designed to get rid of the cables which are currently needed to charge our phones; cables that have a tendency to break (a lot, in the case of our house!). The charger works with the addition of a magnetic patch with Qi-enabled phones, and there is a range of adaptor patches for android and Apple devices.

MAGQI Magnetic Qi Charger

Simply apply the thin magnetic/ adaptor patch underneath your current (non-metal) phone case, plug the wireless charger into the wall and when your phone needs charging, simply stick your phone to the charger and away you go! With a 1A output the same as a traditional cable charger, your phone will charge at the same speed as you are accustomed to. The only drawback I noted was that my phone warmed up more than usual while charging. Also, the user manual says to peel back the sticker off the patch before applying it to your phone, and I think this might be a from an earlier prototype as peeling back the sticker revealed the magnetic workings underneath. Don’t peel back the sticker!

I use a rather thick plastic QuadLock iPhone case so I can track my mountain bike rides using Strava, and my concerns that the cover would be too thick for the magnetic charger to be effective were unfounded. There were no problems at all!

Magqi have also launched a magnetic car charger too, convenient for hands’ free calls and voice commands on the go.

The Magqi Qi Magnetic Desk Charger has a retail price of £45.99 (currently on offer from Amazon for £23.99) while the magnetic adaptor patch price starts from £12.99 (currently on offer for £5.99) for Samsung phones and £18.99 (on offer for £9.99) for iPhones. They also offer an additional 10% discount if you buy two items or more in one purchase. At the rate we go through phone charger cables I think this could be a worthwhile investment.
