Rice is one of the world’s greatest staple foods. Its many different varieties feed billions of people every single day. Veetee, one of the largest rice suppliers in the UK, have a sole mission to show the UK consumer just how versatile rice can be.

They make a wide range of dry and microwave heat-and-eat rice in various flavours, and they’ve just come out with a brand new cookery book too – a collection of recipes with hints and tips to help with whatever life throws your way.

    I like adding a beaten egg, splash of Worcester sauce peas, red peppers and mushrooms and a half teaspoon of honey , then fry until egg is cooked

    I love all rice dishes. This competition has just reminded me of a cheap, tasty rice dish I used to make in my student days….brown ricem a boiled egg chopped up, tuna and worcester sauce….was far tastier than it sounds 🙂

    I love rice and cheese sauce, I table spoon of corn flour 1 pint of milk mix the corn flour with a little milk add the rest of the milk and microwave until milk comes to the boil stirring every 2 minutes. Once boiled add 125g of strong cheese and stir, then poor over the rice.

    I haven’t cooked it for a while, but my mum and I used to have fried rice fairly often when I was a child, with bacon, peas, and any other leftovers that my mum could throw in!

    I like to add whatever needs using up in the fridge, the odd small pepper, half an onion, a little tomato puree – sometimes i find the best meals are made using the fridge bits!

    I’m aiming to live a healthier lifestyle. It’s taken me a while to master perfectly cooked brown rice off the hob. Now it’s a daily lunch box staple. Got around 6 different rice dishes that form the bulk of my weekly meals. Quick, simple and tasty.

    I add lots of vegetables into it and sometimes some egg. It is nice plain though with curry or chilli. Sometimes we add mixed beans in it like the Caribbean dishes to add some protein and texture.

    Mix a teaspoon of tandoori powder and a tin of mackerel in a bowl, add chopped spring onion and sweet corn. Finally add cooled rice, fold in and serve.

    Cooked in chicken stock, then add lots of grated courgette, grated carrot and chopped chicken and apricots, spices, a few spoons of apricot juice and sprinkled with sliced almonds. Delicious and quick.

    I love to make tomato pesto rice with sun dried tomato pesto, chopped onion and garlic. It’s so tasty and goes well with lots of things especially quorn fillets which we like.

    I use rice to jazz up leftovers- just throw in any meat (preferably chicken) add any vegetables to a frying pan of rice that has been fried in oil and add seasoning. Especially onions, garlic, season all

    I eat a lot of rice as I am glutenfree. Favourite ways include chopping up walnuts, cucumber, tomato etc. and stirring it through rice with extra virgin olive oil. I also like it with salmon and mixed vegetables.

    Cook rice in light coconut milk with 1/2 tsp each of ground allspice, salt, dried thyme and a pinch of ground cloves – we call it Caribbean Rice

    I love rice, specially short grain, for salads or with sauces. I also love short grain brown rice, I love having it cold with tuna and some veg and dressing it with a bit of oil and soy sauce, yum!

    I love stir frying veg with lots of soy sauce, then I have that with veetee jasmine rice and put a poached egg on top of the rice with the yolk all running through the rice……absolutely delicious!!!

    I love it made into a rough approximation of the Chinese style Fried Rice we used to love when we lived in Hong Kong – I cook onions, bacon and ginger, add some peas and cooked rice and a splash of soy sauce, then when it’s all piping hot I scramble a couple of eggs into it.

    We eat lots of rice in our house. I usually add pea, sweetcorn, diced carrots to rice to serve as a side dish or the kids like to eat it as a meal if I add the veg along with some tuna!

    My family are mad about rice. I have three teenagers and they eat it for lunch, dinner. They get very creative adding veggies and occasionally cheese. I love Veetee rice and the hamper and cookbooks sound amazing.
