Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky

5 Things You Need to Know About Salmon Jerky

Published on May 17, 2018 by Elizabeth

Meatsnacks Group, the largest producer of jerky and biltong in Europe, recently launched Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky as an exciting additional protein to their jerky range. Read all about it, plus enter a giveaway to win £60 worth of salmon jerky!

Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky

With demand for meat snacks growing, adding salmon to their range was a natural progression for the Meatsnacks Group.  This jerky offers consumers the perfect alternative to red meat, that is a lighter, gluten-free substitute for other dried meat snacks without compromising on flavour.

Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky range was launched in three tantalizing flavours: Sea Salt & Black Pepper, Sweet Chilli Pepper and Teriyaki and has an RRP of £2.50 per 30g pack.

They are celebrating after recently being announced as finalists for the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2018, shortlisted in the Confectionery, Drink and Snacking Award category for their Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky range.

5 Things You Need to Know About Salmon Jerky

1. Salmon jerky is high in Omega 3 essential fatty acids and high in protein.

Omega 3 fatty acids are one of the ‘good’ types of fat that may help reduce the risk of heart disease, depression, dementia and arthritis when eaten as part of a healthy, balanced diet.

2. Salmon jerky is a gluten-free snack and only has 119 calories per 30-gram pack.

3. Wild West salmon jerky is made from Scottish farmed Atlantic salmon.

This salmon is slowly cooked and smoked on the banks of the River Spey in the Scottish Highlands. It’s made in the Spey Valley Smokehouse which was opened by Princess Anne on October 31st, 1995.

4. Salmon jerky is made by taking fresh salmon and marinating it overnight then smoking it.

It is first marinated in soya sauce and seasoned with apple cider vinegar, black pepper, salt and garlic. This helps preserve the jerky. After it has marinated, it is slowly cooked and smoked over beechwood to create salmon jerky.

5. Salmon jerky doesn’t need refrigerated.

With a 12-month shelf life, which makes it a perfect snack for your desk drawer, gym bag or for going out and about during the day.
