Superb grilling results from rare to well-done, every time!
As a food blogger I get sent all sorts of wonderful and intriguing gadgets and appliances to play with. It’s definitely one of the perks of the job!
Last June I received a Tefal Optigrill, and I have to say it’s become one of my favourite kitchen appliances – it gets used at least once or twice every week, as it grills meat perfectly every time!
The Tefal Optigrill uses “Automatic Sensor Cooking” technology which immediately detects the number of items placed on the grill and their thickness, and adjusts the temperature and cooking time automatically. An indicator light allows you to monitor your cooking directly: Blue then green at the start of cooking, then yellow when the food is rare, orange when it is medium and red if you like your food well-done.
- 6 cooking programmes (red meat, poultry, fish, sausages, hamburgers and sandwiches/panini or bacon) to automatically adapt the temperature to each type of food and cook it perfectly.
- 2 cooking modes: one for frozen food, plus a manual mode that lets you cook anything the way you want.
- 600cm2 cooking surface (capacity 2 to 4 people), with non-stick die-cast aluminium plates.
- Large juice tray and 7° angled plates to ensure the cooking juices run off.
One of my current favourite dishes is to marinade some chicken breasts in a little olive oil mixed with Chipotle seasoning, press the on button on my Optigrill, wait for it to beep that it’s ready, plonk the marinated chicken breasts on the tray, close the lid and wait. Served sliced with some protein-rich quinoa and a generous helping of steamed vegetables it’s a perfect, filling, low calorie meal.

MORE TIPS TO GET THE MOST FROM YOUR OPTIGRILL
- The Tefal Optigrill cooks from frozen. Simply select the frozen setting before choosing the icon for the food you are wanting to cook (I use this option a lot with frozen sausages I’ve forgotten to defrost that morning!)
- It’s super easy to clean – simply wait for it to cool, disassemble the cooking plates and pop them in the dishwasher along with the drip tray.
- It doesn’t need to be used with just meat – grilling vegetables such as peppers for pizza toppings, sliced aubergines or even courgettes is a cinch using the manual setting.

Reduce sticking by oiling your hot grill rack with a vegetable oil-soaked paper towel: hold it with tongs and rub it over the rack 🙂

I Grill, i have a George Foreman grill and use it nearly everyday its one of the very first machine’s from his line and it’s still working great to this day.
I like to use the grill. My advice would be to keep cooking time to a minimum as it’s easy to overcook food under the grill.
I have an ancient Baby George my top tip is to marinate your chiken or fish for a few hours before grilling as it makes it so tender and delicious
Mainly I grill burgers, bacon, chees on toast or pilchards in tomato sauce on toast sometimes mixed with a little vinegar. I love to grill chicken. Jerk chicken is my favourite. I prefer to use chicken thighs rather than breast as it is moist and juicy. Make sure your meat is at room temperature before grilling.
When using the grill on the cooker i like to drain off the excess fat half way through cooking to stop the spitting.
We grill, but not very often. I need to start doing it again, it’s awful seeing how much fat drips off food – especially sausages x
No recipes as such but grilled peppers and aubergine are lovely served in panini with a drizzle of olive oil with a sprinkling of oregano.

Yes we do as my brother is a butcher so we get a fair bit of meat, timing is key make sure to know the time your meat started cooking and how long it needs, also fresh herbs and spices used to marinade are my favourite

I use my grill to make toasted sandwiches – my tip to avoid losing your cheese in a ‘melt’ version is to make each half of the sandwich by folding one slice of bread (rather than two slices one on top of the other) and place on the grill with the fold on the bottom so the cheese stays inside the sandwich than running out!

We grill whole mackerel, whole plaice, salmon fillets and tuna steaks. e eat a lot of fish. Also grill lamb chops, pork chops, gammon steaks and beef steaks. The tastiest and healthiest way of cooking in our opinion.

I used to grill before my george forman gave up the ghost. I’d recommend (and its a great stress reliever) Giving chicken breasts a whack with a rolling pin before grilling as it makes it thinner and it cooks quicker/easier.
I like to grill vegetarian burgers then turn them over and add some cheese and a slice of tomato then pop them into a bread roll

my tip is to use a baking tray underneath anything you grill (shelf below) then you have less cleaning !!!!

When cooking steaks, make sure the pan is super hot with some oil first, then leave the steak to cook how you like it – DON’T keep turning it… So many people make this mistake but you want to get a nice brown on the outside!

I use the oven grill. I’ve grilled seabass with rosemary and lemon that my husband caught and it was beautiful

Yep.. tip.. line the grill pan with foil – grills quicker and it keeps it clean when you pull out the foil!

This would be brilliant to have at the moment I can only grill the likes of sausages, burgers,fish fingers etc in the oven grill and then having to cook for example oven chips separately either before or after cooking sausages etc.. This would make my life so much easier thank you for the chance x
I do grill but only on my cooker as t is the only grill I have. I try to grill what I can rather than fry as I always try to eat as healthy as i possibly can. I love grilled fish with a cheesy herby topping though… one of my treat day foods as I do put too much cheese on it.. but hey, I like it 🙂

I do ham and cheese toasties! Don’t have a grill tho, I do mine in the oven grill.
I do grill, on what I call my George Formby, but do not have any real tips, I’m not terribly adventurous with it. I do love chipotle like you though. My non-recipe tip is to always wipe down with kitchen towel and a little oil while it is cooling down – nothing worse than coming to grill and finding it covered in grease and food bits.

i try and grill as much as i can.
I find the biggest error people make when grilling is to have it too hot.

I used to have a George Foreman grill a few years ago and used it all the time. But it broke and I never got round to replacing it. I would love to start grilling again.
I grill as much a s possible and I discovered after many years of smoke alarms going off and having your kitchen smoked out that if you just lower the temperature and move the grill tray down from the top that your food still cooks through,it just takes a little longer,unless you like burnt bits that is !.My children thought everything looked a bit black when they were young !
I currently use a George Foreman and use it for cooking steaks, but it is very small.

We use our grill a lot! We love making breakfast frittatas – chop potatoes into small cubes and cook in a pan until cooked through, then add chopped onion and bacon and cook. Add in seasoned beaten eggs, and cook until the bottom is set – then grill until the top is set too. It’s great both hot and cold!
I grill a lot, but also use the oven for casseroles. I always make more than needed so some can be frozen and reheated for a quick meal

We have a George Foreman grill and use it for steaks, gammon, bacon etc. I’d love to cook more things on the grill but ours does not have detachable plates so its a pig and a half to clean 😀

I don’t have a grilling gadget but do grill food in my oven although it is a little messy and awkward. My tip would be, if you are grilling straight from the freezer, spritz it with a mist of water or oil before grilling as I find the freezer can actually dry out food.

We grill on the barbecue at the moment, but the last time we were home in Canada we used a similar grill at my Mom and Dad’s. It was great for asperagus, peppers, sweet potatoes, etc.

We did used to have a George Foreman grill – too large for us, really – and did use it for almost everything. My husband, who does most of the cooking found that it was better with the grill hot, but that he had to be careful about just how hot it was when you put food on, otherwise you end up with immediate spitting before you had chance to close the grill.

I was always brought up with the knowledge that grilling is much more helthier than frying and it has stuck with me. We grill all of the time. The flavour of grilled meat and veg is so fresh and tasty
I chargril;l aubergines, peppers, artichokes then marinate them in olive oil, garlic, chilli, oregano & store them in jars. Once open I refridgerate & have with steak chicken, but my favourite is in sandwiches.

Good grilling starts with a good marinade with a bit of sugar in so the meat caramelises – boom!
We grill a lot and to keep quite dry foods moisten without too much calories is ‘spray oil’ you can make your own by watering down your regular oil.

It’s a good way of lowering the fat content in meat, and gives an extra dimension to some vegetables.
Don’t be afraid to grill on a low heat, slowly. Seduce the food, don’t give it all the heat in a burst of passion. You won’t get an even cook. Tease it. Let it cook slowly and it will reward you with wonderful flavours….

I used to use grill to do all my meats (burgers/chicken/sausages) but cat recently decided that it would prefer to sit in the sun instead of the grill, pushed it off the counter and smashed it (and 3 tiles!).

Ooooh I would love one of those grills! I used to have another brand of grill and we enjoyed my chicken kebabs as I called them, it was chicken breast grilled with yellow peppers, onions (we like them a bit crunchy, but if you like them soft put them on first), when grilled through put in a warm pitta bread with a dollop of home made garlic mayo and some sweetcorn relish – dee-lish! and if you hold back on the mayo its quite a healthy meal.

Love to grill- but first cut all the fat off, then slice the meat at the edge to stop it curling up, and brush lightly with oil to stop it drying out.
Grilling is much quicker and healthier than frying and oven cooking, especially if you are watching your weight.
We always grill fish or meat, it is a lot quicker and healthier too
I use a cast iron griddle pan – but I cook most meat rare (blue in the case of steak) so that probably wouldn’t go down well as a hint with a lot of people ! The exception is chicken breasts – which I ‘butterfly’ as otherwise the thinner part overcooks before the thicker part is cooked through.

Yes i grill but it’s a nightmare as always sets of the smoke detector. Spatters hit the filament causing smoke & flames & the filament is impossible to clean .

Chorizo quesadilla’s are lovely, also brush meat with a light oil dressing.
I grill most days. I spray a little oil on my old George Foreman and to clean I just place a damp piece of kitchen paper on my warm grill to make easy cleaning 🙂
Timing is critical with grilling, too long and the food becomes dry and tasteless, too short a time and you risk illness. Having said that I love grilling, it is a very precise way of cooking.
I do grill, but am not an expert. My only tip is to keep an eye on the food at all time – things go wrong when you don’t.
Marinading is the important bit. For example, marinade chicken for grilled fajitas in lime juice and tequila with fresh coriander for a few hours before putting under the grill. The meat is so flavourful and tender! Works well with beef too.
