That’s the youngest gone off to big school now. The summer holidays flew by far too quickly and the first day of school suddenly came around.
We were late. Great way to start, eh?
New shoes couldn’t be found, brand new bento lunch boxes needed to packed (artfully) with food they’d actually eat, teeth and hair needed brushed, clothes picked and put on. This is always the most time consuming bit – the shirt I pick isn’t fashionable enough, or the shirt they’ve picked (their most favourite one they don’t ever want to give up) is two sizes too small. A long debate results as to why this shirt can’t be worn any more before disappearing (when they’re not looking) into the charity shop pile.
I finally got the two of them ready for school to find out the youngest had disassembled his brand new school bag some time prior (probably when he was supposed to be putting his socks on). He didn’t just unclip the straps he actually removed the straps completely from the clips. I’d no idea how it was supposed to go back together, but there wasn’t enough time to figure it out so I hastily patched it together. We were already late. His school bag hung off his back as the straps couldn’t be adjusted.
This photo of the back of him, hand in hand with his big sister, jacket open and flapping in the wing, was hurriedly snapped on my iPhone because their grandmother wanted to see a photo of his first day of school.
The reply from her: His bag looks a little big, doesn’t it? Â </headdesk> Â (the bag has subsequently been fixed and does fit properly now!). I now get up half an hour earlier to make sure everything gets done in time.
That’s all three of my children in full time education now. Where has the time gone? It seems only yesterday I was looking at that pale line on the pregnancy test finding out I was expecting my first. Now, at fourteen, he’s started college! I’m very conscious that they’re all growing up quickly and I am making a better effort to spend more quality time with each of them, together and singly. These days will be gone far too soon – my advice, make the most of it now. Grab a cuddle every time you can.
Fairy Non Bio has made a tear inducing video to illustrate this point. Bet you’ll get a lump in your throat watching it – I did!

Aww it’s so sad when they go off to school but how lovely that he has the support of his big sister. I think it’s adorable when their backpacks are nearly as big as the kids are!

Oh, this is the second sponsored post I have seen for fairy non bio! I love that first photo, it is super cute! You re right, time does go too fast. I hate how grown up my nephews are getting without me!

There were quite a few of us UK bloggers asked to do this challenge, so it’s no surprise you’ve found one or two 🙂

Been doing this big school thing for awhile now and yet I am still struggling. I cant seem to get it right.
I love your photo. I love the calmness. Even if I know school run can never be a calm activity =) #alphabetphoto

How a photo can be deceiving – here was me behind them, shrilly: Hurry UP! We’re late, we’re LATE!! 😀 I don’t think I’ll get it right ever, either. It was fine with just one, but three? Although, there are days when they get there with plenty of play time before the bell rings. win. 🙂

Gorgeous pic – brings a lump to my throat as mine have almost (one just gone) flown the nest.

I’m at the stage where I realize my 14 year old will be leaving soon. Not tomorrow, but still…. soon. I left (forcibly) when I was 16 and he’s nearly that age! I’m conscious now that I was to equip him with the skills he needs to leave the nest. I don’t want him to leave the nest! Oh you’ve made me go all teary eyed!!

We are always running late, but just manage to make it to school on time! Two of my three are now at school, I think it will be hard when the last one joins them x #alphabetphoto

I thought it would be too. The youngest starts his very first full day of school tomorrow and we’ll see how I feel then. He’s been doing half days for the start of this term and although there were plenty mums with tears in their eyes I was like… woohoo! How bad a Mum am I!!

I am always so grateful that I don’t have to go through this every morning. Great photo! His bag does look mighty big!

I suppose homeschooling does have many benefits! 🙂 Ok, his bag is big – but it fits better now that the straps are fixed 😀

I so know that’s going to be me when Arthur finally starts school – I’ve never been great at being organised! It still feels like a very long way away at the moment. I’m hoping time doesn’t go too quickly, but I realise I’m unlikely to have a say in that… x

My only advice would be to get up half an hour earlier than you think you need to! That’s what I’ve learned anyway 🙂 Enjoy these times!

Oh I remember this day well! My only child started high school this year and I very nearly made her late by taking photographs of her haha!

Awww bless! Starting high school is such a big thing too. So glad I still have two little ones in primary to hold on to!
