As a food blogger, I get to try out all sorts of wonderful, interesting and sometimes downright weird intriguing new and upcoming products – it’s definitely one of the perks of the job! Here are a selection of things my family and I have been taste testing over the last little while, with thanks to all the companies for sending samples for review.
CARNIVORE CLUB
This one is for the meat lovers! It’s a subscription box where the company hunts the length and breadth of the UK for the finest in charcuterie (charcuterie (n) – a delicatessen specializing in dressed meats and meat dishes; the products sold in such a shop).
You can try a one off box for £32, or get a monthly subscription box delivered to your door for £29 per month. This is the world’s first monthly delivery service of artisan charcuterie and oh my goodness gracious me what a box it is!
My review box was from husband and wife team Martin & Jean Edwards from Deli Farms in Bodman Moor, Cornwall. They are the only UK producer dedicated to air-dried, Cornish charcuterie and they supply everyone from London restaurateurs to Wimbleton players to athletes at the 2012 Olympic games.
My review box, presented in an eye appealing wood effect cardboard box, contained garlic salami, spicy chorizo, an uncut pancetta, one devil’s poker salami stick, a packet of sliced coppa and my absolute favourite – coppa chips – their award winning coppa crisped up into a snack or salad topping – I confess I ate the whole packet of coppa chips to myself sprinkled over salads over the course of a few days – so incredibly moreish!
One of these boxes would be a perfect gift for any meat lover.
You’ve got to check out their Instagram too – if you’re a meat lover you’ll love their feed!
MARLENKA
Made to an old Armenian family recipe, Marlenka, based in the Czech Republic, produce a range of delicious, natural honey-sweetened cakes which are, I have to confess, are really rather incredibly moreish!
We were sent a selection of products to try, and my favourite was the Classic Honey Snack – layers of honey sweetened sponge sandwiched between a condensed milk filling. The honey nuggets were gorgeous too (in both classic cocoa and honey flavours) but I found the texture more appealing after refrigeration. Verdict – would definitely eat again!

WONDERFUL PISTACHIOS & WONDERFUL ALMONDS
Did you know that pistachio nuts have been named a top food trend for 2015? The Wonderful brand make a gorgeous range of flavoured pistachios nuts in sweet chili, roasted salted, salt & pepper and roasted unsalted, there’s something to please everyone.
The sweet chili flavour pistachios didn’t last the day in our house – everyone kept coming back for more, while the salt and pepper flavour were more to my liking. They also produce a range of almonds – in natural, roasted & salted, blanched and salt & pepper. I used the blanched almonds along with the roasted unsalted pistachios in my very first attempt at making nougat recently, while the natural raw almonds were sprinkled over my breakfast yogurt or porridge over the last few weeks.
Verdict – would definitely pop a packet of pistachio nuts into my trolley at the supermarket as they sell for £1.99 for a 250 gram bag. Very reasonably priced.

HELLO HUNGRY OFFICE SURVIVAL KIT
Hello Hungry is a new start up business designed to provide you with something more healthy than a sandwich or chocolate bar when you’ve been sitting at the desk all morning and the hunger pangs kick in.
I love the idea behind this business, so I agreed to taste test their three prototype flavours – tomato and basil; mango, spinach & peach and a sweet strawberry, carrot & beetroot flavour.
I really liked the tomato flavoured one – it was like a quick, ready to drink tomato and basil soup, but containing only 135 calories in the whole 330 ml bottle it did nothing to ease the hunger pangs. I did, at work, reach for a Snickers afterwards. The other two flavours – I wasn’t keen at all. One of them, the spinach one, I couldn’t drink – and I love spinach! It reminded me of a bag of spinach leaves that had been left at the bottom of the crisper for way too long.
Like I said, I love the idea and the three men behind the project were glad of my honest feedback and are working on perfecting their recipes. Watch this space, I think this business is onto a great idea and I look forward to seeing how things develop.

ENCONA TASTE EXPLORERS {GIVEAWAY}
Encona have totally got your barbecue needs covered this summer – fancy a bit of Jamaica, Korea or Morocco on the grill or a spot of Peru or Mexico to dip?
Each of the three marinades – Jamaican Jerk, Korean BBQ or Moroccan Harissa – have been inspired by its origin, combining authentic ingredients to create mouth-watering marinades that will make you feel like you are sunning in the Caribbean, riding a camel in North Africa or wandering through Gwangjang market.
The dips – Encona Peruvian Amarillo Sauce is a blend of authentic Peruvian Amarillo chillies, roasted onion, spices and herbs creating a sweet, subtle chilli flavour with a hint of garlic while their Mexican Smokey Jalapeno Sauce (my own personal favourite!), a delicious blend of chillies and spices gives the rich sauce a subtle smokey flavour and a warm and fruity taste to compliment your Mexican meals.
Each marinade is suitable for vegetarians and two are gluten free while both dips are gluten free.
Encona have brought the flavour. It’s your turn to bring it to the BBQ. They’ve offered one of my readers the chance to win a hamper of goodies with an additional themed gift. To enter, fill out the Rafflecopter entry form below.
HEARTSEASE FARM ENGLISH ELDERFLOWER PRESSE
Radnor Hills Ltd was founded by William Watkins in 1996 to produce soft drinks at his family farm in Mid Wales. The Watkins family have farmed at Heartsease since 1903. This Spring, Heartsease Farm have been foraging for the very best British Elderflowers to create an utterly delicious sparkling Elderflower pressé, perfect for those sunny days.
Available in independent farm shops and grocery stores nationwide, WH Smith and on Ocado.com from £1.69 this drink can be taken along on picnics, as we enjoyed ours, or even mixed with something a bit stronger to make a gorgeous cocktail. Mix apple vodka and Poire liqueur and serve over ice topped with Heartsease Farm English Elderflower Pressé, and garnish with an apple slice.
I really enjoyed the refreshing, mild flavour of this drink.
TMR BREAKFAST BOX {GIVEAWAY}
At TMRbox, they know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that 20 million of us in the UK (around a third?!) skip breakfast. That’s why they are here, to add a little bit of excitement to your breakfast.
TMRBox is a weekly subscription service where once a week you get 5 different breakfasts from porridge to muesli to granola, individually wrapped by their breakfast experts and delivered to your door or office. All of their breakfasts are full of good proteins and healthy fibres keeping hunger at bay!
There are loads of different breakfasts on offer, and I sampled the cranberry & chocolate granola, the honey almond granola, the cranberry & blueberry chia porridge, the garden of Cotswolds porridge and the yogurt medley granola. My favourites were the porridges – little 50 gram sachets with dried fruit making the perfect sized breakfast serving.
The granolas and muesli weren’t as crunchy as I would have liked, but the variety of flavours certainly made for tasty breakfasts when served over fresh fruit and yogurt.
A weekly subscription to TMRbox will set you back only £3.99 and they have kindly offered five of my readers the opportunity to win one box of five breakfasts. To enter, fill out the Rafflecopter form below.

GROOVY FOOD COMPANY
The Groovy Food Company have developed a new and exciting range of marinades and salad dressings made using agave nectar, an organically grown natural sweetener from Mexico’s Blue Webber agave plant.
I tried their Agave Dressing – Classic Mixed Herb with Garlic, and the Agave Marinade & Glaze with mango – both incredibly tasty and ideal for a barbecue. The marinade was my favourite with the addition of garam masala – a perfect dip for chicken nuggets!
Both of these products are available in easy-squeezy bottles, so simply shake it up and drizzle it on to meat, fish or veg, perfect for the barbeque season or any al fresco dinning.
The whole range is gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans and they sell for £2.50 per bottle.

BUKO ORGANIC COCONUT WATER {GIVEAWAY}
The term ‘buko’ refers to the young green coconuts in the Philippines, known for their naturally sweeter and fresher coconut water, and Buko believe,that by ensuring the coconuts they use are organic and avoiding all additives and preservatives, they have produced a delicious pure drink that will have even the most die-hard coconut water sceptics converted.
It’s not just about great taste though. We all know about the purported health benefits of coconut water, but Buko are looking to help more than just the health of those who drink it. The brand have teamed up with Cuipo, an environmental organisation, such that for every carton of drink bought one meter of rainforest is saved. On each carton you’ll find a unique code, which can be entered online to find out exactly where the metre of rainforest you’ve saved is, and the more cartons you drink the more rainforest you’ll help save.
Now – for the taste test. Both my husband and I have never tried coconut water before, and we’re both rather skeptical…
Hubby: “This is really refreshing! If I close my eyes and drink it I can imagine I’m on a desert island. A glass of water is thirst quenching, but this… this is refreshing. It makes my mouth happy!”
Me: “Is this really just coconut water?” <checks ingredients list> “Yes, it is! It tastes like a pleasant soft drink, and it’s just 100% coconut water! It’s very refreshing and I think it would be a great mix for other fruit juices to make some summer mocktails – mango, perhaps?”
Buko have offered my readers the chance to win a case of coconut water (8 cartons in total worth £15.92) to try it out for themselves. To enter, fill out the Rafflecopter form below.
