As of January 2019, Costa, the UK’s leading coffee shop chain, added an exciting new product to its menu: Arla Lactofree. From frothy cappuccinos to full flavoured flat whites, you can now enjoy your favourite milk-based drinks, with the same great taste and nutritional benefits of milk, just without the lactose.
I am a self-confessed coffeeholic. I like to start my day with one, or two, large mugs of steaming hot milky coffee. I get mighty grumpy if, for any reason, I can’t get my morning coffee fix. It’s a thing. It really is.
Regular re-caffeination throughout the day is also required, especially while travelling. I love sitting down for a leisurely milky latte or cappuccino, but my all-time new favourite coffee is the Costa Cortado, something I learned about while on a VW campervan road trip of Cornwall with a friend last Autumn.
The Costa Cortado is a small but mighty coffee with a rich velvety texture. Its intense flavour is topped off with textured milk and the baristas sign it off with a heart. It’s adorable, tasty and entirely functional – this little beauty will keep you going for hours!
My Cornish friend (who is a huge Costa fan) suffers from lactose intolerance, and I was really impressed with the quality of her dairy-free coffees while we travelled. The thing, I find that dairy-free options just don’t give you that creamy taste that pairs so well with the bitter coffee bean, but that’s my own personal taste.
Imagine my delight when I found out, that as of mid-January this year, Costa now offer Arla Lactofree milk – all the dairy goodness of regular cows’ milk, just without the lactose! Because it has no lactose Arla Lactofree is easier to digest for those who may be lactose intolerant or have a sensitive gut, like my friend.
Arla Lactofree has the same great taste as milk, so there is no unexpected flavour or aftertaste when you order your favourite lactose-free milk-based drink at Costa.
