Helping prevent food waste one recipe at a time.
The No Waste Food Challenge is a food blogging challenge to get us sharing the recipes we’ve made with ingredients which might otherwise have ended up in the bin. Did you know that the UK throws away an astonishing 7 million tonnes of edible food every year?
This is not sustainable, and this challenge was designed to help raise awareness of this issue, and to help folk realise how easy it is to salvage that lonely little carrot in the back of the crisper, the dregs of double cream at the bottom of the tub, those slices of stale bread you forgot you had.
Last month we had 16 fantastic entries for this challenge…. a great big thank you to everyone who contributed.
Thank you again to everyone who linked up last month. If you are feeling inspired and have a recipe you’d like to share, please link back to either this page or the official No Waste Food Challenge page (use of the badge is optional) and add your link to the linky below! It’s a Blog Hop so you can grab the code and share on your own page too, if you fancied! I stumble, yum, RT & tweet, pin and comment on all entries.

The recipes look delicious so I’ve bookmarked for inspiration later. I try to waste as little as possible so we sometimes have some “creative” meals! Any suitable left overs that we don’t eat go to the chickens so I figure that’s a good way to recycle and the little that’s left after that goes on the compost heap.

What a great challenge! Some good recipes here too.

These are fab ideas. I love to NOT Waste and put all the things left over together to make meals. Sadly due to illness I have someone preparing the food at the minute but once i get batter in a few months or years i will get back int it. Angela

I am so bad at throwing away food, I never check things in time and because I am not at home for about half the week I don’t get time to use things. Definitely going to check out the gluten and dairy free cake recipe x

Our local council recently provided bins to recycle food waste. A small one for the kitchen and a larger one to keep outside. Any week where we have filled the small bin is a bad week for us and focuses the mind on just how much we are wasting.

I never throw food away. It’s definitely getting trickier to keep everything in the fridge fresh with just the hubby and me to feed. I Absolutely love your mature cheddar and wholegrain mustard scones. Such a creative recipe and it just looks too good to pass up. I’ll be trying this recipe out and several of the others. It’s so good to have inspiration for the ‘end of life kitchen rescues’ we all must do!
Rebecca Smith
What a great idea for a post, will definitely be trying some recipes
Nicole
This is a really delicious looking collection of recipes and what a fantastic idea! That is absolutely far too much food waste a year, and I imagine it’s probably quite similar here in New Zealand. I’d love to reduce the food waste from our household so I will be referring to this collection often.
Tori Gabriel
What a great challenge! I love the sound of some of these. Especially the quiche. I’m a big quiche fan!

I totally support this challenge. We try not to waste food; and make broth, soup, salads, quiches, etc. I’ll have to see what I can come up with. 🙂

Food wastage is a massive problem within my family, we throw so much food away. Usually at least a quarter of our shop. We really need to start using our food more carefully! Thank you for the amazing tips
